2018 Reading list

2018 Reading list

Here is my list of books that I plan on reading for 2018. Most of the books that I list I bought last year during the summer  but I never got around to reading. So this year I am making it a goal to read all of them. I bought all of them but two, I have kindle unlimited for them. Which I love having Kindle unlimited, it is so nice to have.

Right now I am reading a series called the Gender Games. I am on book 3 out of 7,  The Gender Lie. It reminds me of the hunger games and divergent, which I both love.  I flew throught the first two book of the Gender Games during my time off during christmas.

1. The Gender Games by Bella Forrest

A toxic river divides nineteen-year-old Violet Bates’s world by gender.
Women rule the East. Men rule the West.

Welcome to the lands of Matrus and Patrus.

Ever since the disappearance of her beloved younger brother, Violet’s life has been consumed by an anger she struggles to control. Already a prisoner to her own nation, now she has been sentenced to death for her crimes.

But one decision could save her life.

To enter the kingdom of Patrus, where men rule and women submit.

Everything about the patriarchy is dangerous for a rebellious girl like Violet. She cannot break the rules if she wishes to stay alive. But abiding by rules has never been her strong suit, and when she is thrust into more danger than she could have ever predicted, Violet is forced to sacrifice many things in the forbidden kingdom … including forbidden love.
In a world divided by gender, only the strongest survive…

3. Rise Sister Rise: A Guide to Unleashing the Wise, Wild Woman Within by
Rebecca Campbell

Most women have spent much of their working lives ‘making it’ in a man’s world, leaning on patriarchal methods of survival in order to succeed, dulling down their intuition and ignoring the fierce power of their feminine. They have ignored the cycles of the feminine in order to survive in a patriarchal linear system – but now the world has changed.

Rise Sister Rise is a transmission that calls the innate feminine wisdom to rise. It is about healing the insecurities, the fears and the inherited patterns that stop women trusting the Shakti (power) and wisdom (intuition) that effortlessly flows through them. It’s about recognizing all of the ways we have been keeping ourselves contained and restrained in effort to fit into a certain archetype of woman. It’s about co-creating a whole new archetype of woman – a woman who deeply respects the wise women in her life and cultivates her own wisdom every single day.

Full of tools, calls to action, contemplative questions, rituals and confrontational exercises, this book teaches women that it is safe to let Shakti rise, safe to trust their intuition and safe to take leaps of faith – because in healing ourselves we are healing the world.

4. Light Is the New Black: A Guide to Answering Your Soul’s Callings and Working Your Light by Rebecca Campbell

Light is the New Black is a guidebook for a new breed of women who are here to be bright lights in the world.

Rebecca Campbell had her first awakening when she was a teenager, but without anyone to guide her, she ignored her soul’s callings and dimmed her light in order to fit in. Then, just before her 30th birthday, the life she had so consciously created began to crumble around her. Her 11-year relationship ended, two dear friends died suddenly, and overnight, her fantastic career as an award-winning creative director no longer fit her soul. It was as if the universe turned off all the lights, so she had no choice but to rediscover her own.

In this book, Rebecca guides you to do the same. In order to thrive in this new age, everything must be an authentic expression of who we truly are. Rebecca shares her own journey to the light, alongside practical tools that will help you to answer your soul’s callings, and channelled messages from the universe. Reconnect to the core of your being and honour it, so that you can use it to change the world in a way that only you can.

5. The Universe Has Your Back: Transform Fear to Faith by Gabrielle Bernstein

In her latest book, The Universe Has Your Back, New York Times best-selling author Gabrielle Bernstein teaches readers how to transform their fear into faith in order to live a divinely guided life. Each story and lesson in the book guides readers to release the blocks to what they most long for: happiness, security and clear direction. The lessons help readers relinquish the need to control so they can relax into a sense of certainty and freedom. Readers will learn to stop chasing life and truly live.

Making the shift from fear to faith will give readers a sense of power in a world that all too often makes them feel utterly powerless. When the tragedies of the world seem overwhelming, this book will help guide them back to their true power.

18. #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso

Amoruso spent her teens hitchhiking, committing petty theft, and scrounging in dumpsters for leftover bagels. By age twenty-two she had dropped out of school, and was broke, directionless, and checking IDs in the lobby of an art school—a job she’d taken for the health insurance. It was in that lobby that Sophia decided to start selling vintage clothes on eBay.

Flash forward to today, and she’s the founder of Nasty Gal and the founder and CEO of Girlboss. Sophia was never a typical CEO, or a typical anything, and she’s written #GIRLBOSS for other girls like her: outsiders (and insiders) seeking a unique path to success, even when that path is windy as all hell and lined with naysayers.

#GIRLBOSS proves that being successful isn’t about where you went to college or how popular you were in high school. It’s about trusting your instincts and following your gut; knowing which rules to follow and which to break; when to button up and when to let your freak flag fly.

I would love to hear your thoughts or any books you are reading.

  1. Great list and I like how you stick to a specific theme for your reading. I’m especially curious about the books relating to lunar phases. Drawing a lunar calendar in my bulletjournal for the past couple months showed me how much my mood, productivity, and energy fluctuate each cycle and I hope to use that in the future. x
